Yemen Conflict Escalates as Houthi Forces Target Saudi Oil Infrastructure
The conflict in Yemen has escalated as the Iran-aligned Houthis launched new attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Houthi advance, which includes the taking of Perim Island at the mouth of the Red Sea, has put pressure on Saudi oil exports after a pipeline attack on Thursday knocked a key pipeline offline.
Saudi authorities issued emergency alerts in four southern cities, and 13 civilians were wounded in the Houthi attacks. The Houthis fired dozens of missiles and drones at a military airbase in Khamis Mushait, targeting aircraft hangars, radar systems, runways, and ammunition depots.
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said the Houthis are being put under heavy pressure, leading them to retaliate with more missile and drone attacks. The conflict has raised concerns about global oil supplies, as a prolonged shutdown of the pipeline could cut off up to 4% of global oil supply.
