Yemen Conflict Threatens Global Oil Supplies, Sends US Gas Prices Soaring
The ongoing conflict in Yemen has escalated tensions in the Middle East, threatening global oil supplies and sending shockwaves through the US economy. Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, is at the center of the crisis.
Since February 28, when the US and Israel launched their war on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz has been partially closed, disrupting Saudi Arabia's primary export route. This has already led to higher gasoline prices in the US, which could worsen if the situation deteriorates further.
The Houthis, backed by Iran, have recently seized control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a vital waterway through which much of Saudi's oil exports are diverted. They have also declared a blockade on Saudi shipping, further tightening the noose around Saudi Arabia's crucial oil exports.
