Yemen Secures First French Wheat Shipment in Over Four Years
Yemen is set to receive its first French wheat shipment in over four years. The cargo, consisting of 60,000 metric tons of wheat, is being transported by a bulk carrier docked at the French port of Dunkirk and Rouen. This marks a significant shift in Yemen's grain import patterns as local importers seek alternative suppliers due to ongoing disruptions in global markets.
According to records from the European Commission cited by Reuters, this shipment ends a four-year suspension of French wheat exports to Yemeni ports. The development comes as France faces growing competition from Romanian wheat exports, which have expanded their presence in global grain markets.
The improved grain quality resulting from dry and hot weather conditions in France during the current season has made French wheat more suitable for milling and increased its competitiveness in international markets.
