Yerevan Weighs Azerbaijan Gas as Russia Tightens Energy Grip
Armenia's government is considering importing natural gas from Azerbaijan to diversify its energy supplies, following Russia's threats to sharply raise the price of Russian gas supplied to Armenia.
The Armenian government imports most of its gas from Russia at a price significantly lower than the international market rate. However, Moscow has warned that it will end this discount if Yerevan continues to pursue membership in the European Union.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian has downplayed the impact of Russian sanctions and reaffirmed his government's commitment to pursuing a pro-Western foreign policy.
Aleksandr Simonian, Secretary of Armenia's Security Council, emphasized that the government is exploring all possible options for gas imports, including from Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, and Russia.
