YPF Aims for Late-November Investment Decision on Argentina LNG Project
Argentina’s state-owned energy company YPF is moving forward with its plans for the Argentina LNG project, targeting a final investment decision (FID) by late November. The project, which aims to produce 12 million tonnes per year, is backed by natural gas from the Vaca Muerta Shale, a key resource in Argentina’s energy sector. YPF has been working closely with US financing partners and contractors to solidify the project’s framework, reflecting growing international interest in the region’s shale resources.
The Argentina LNG project is expected to commence operations around 2030, pending the finalization of the FID. This timeline aligns with YPF’s broader strategy to expand natural gas exports and enhance production capabilities. The project also involves upstream interests from Eni and XRG, indicating a collaborative effort among major players in the energy sector.
As YPF advances toward the FID, the project remains a focal point for Argentina’s efforts to become a significant player in the global LNG market. The Vaca Muerta Shale’s abundant gas reserves provide a strong foundation for the initiative, which could further integrate Argentina into international energy trade.
