Zelensky Seeks Global Help as Deadly Strikes Continue in Ukraine
Russian and Ukrainian forces continued their deadly exchange of strikes overnight, with Russia targeting at least four Ukrainian regions with missiles and drones. The attacks killed five people, officials said on Tuesday.
The ongoing aerial battles have provided a backdrop to the visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the US, where he plans to meet with other world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, at the UN General Assembly in New York. Mr Zelensky hopes to recruit their help in ending Russia's more than four-year-old full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Russian forces also attacked Ukrainian cargo vessels, severely disrupting Kyiv's exports and threatening global supplies. Russia and Ukraine have accounted for around 30% of the world's wheat exports and 12% of corn exports in recent years, most of it shipped through the Black Sea. However, last month, attacks slashed both countries' agricultural exports by two-thirds.
French President Emmanuel Macron said his country would provide Ukraine with more radars to help protect its power grid. Mr Zelensky plans to press Mr Trump to send more US-made Patriot air defense systems to stop Russia's ballistic missiles.
