Zinc Prices Hit Four-Year Peak Amid Supply Fears
Zinc prices have reached a four-year peak due to supply fears and speculators, despite initial expectations of a production surplus. This anomaly has left market participants perplexed.
The London Metal Exchange (LME) benchmark zinc price reached $3,823.85 per metric ton in August 2026, its highest level since June 2022. Zinc's year-to-date performance has been impressive, with a gain of approximately 22% on the LME.
This significant rally is attributed to supply tightness and short squeezes, outperforming other major base metals like copper and aluminium. The discrepancy between forecasted production surpluses and actual market conditions has become one of the defining commodity stories of the year.
