0x Blasts Uniswap V4 Hooks as Malicious, Adams Calls It a Skill Issue
0x published a research report on September 14, arguing that Uniswap v4 hooks were a mistake. The report analyzed 84,163 hooks across six chains and found that most v4 hooks it has analyzed are built to quote one price and settle another.
Uniswap founder Hayden Adams responded on September 15, saying it was a 'skill issue.' He argued that routers should not send orders to bad hooks and pointed developers to Uniswap's API, which he said avoids malicious hooks and routes to all Uniswap liquidity without added fees.
The report found that trades routed through malicious v4 pools delivered 'as much as 50% less at execution than the amount quoted to the user.'
0x described the patterns of hook behavior as varied, with some operating like a 'dice roll' and others inspecting the EVM environment to detect quoting.
