$10,000 Bet on AI-Powered Crypto Exploit Hunting

Share

A recent $10,000 investment in AI-powered vulnerability hunting highlights the new threat landscape in crypto. The funds were spent on API credits to interact with frontier models that can analyze codebases and identify logical flaws at an unprecedented speed.

This shift is a result of the 'vulnerability apocalypse' described by Immunefi CEO Mitchell Amador, where defenders face a 3-4 year recovery window before they can match the advantage given to attackers by AI models. These models can mass-produce vulnerability reports, including low-quality submissions that require human review.

Coinbase has already adjusted its HackerOne bug-bounty payout structure, cutting critical vulnerability rewards from $50,000 to $15,000, a 70% reduction. This change is in response to the ease and cost-effectiveness of AI-powered vulnerability hunting.
