$13 Trillion Corporate Treasury Opportunity Beckons Ripple Stablecoin
Ripple's stablecoin, $RLUSD, is looking to tap into the lucrative corporate treasury market, which handles around $13 trillion in transactions annually. According to Jack McDonald, Ripple's senior vice president of stablecoins, this customer base has not been on blockchain rails and presents a massive opportunity for growth.
The company's Treasury business, built from its acquisition of GTreasury last year, already has 1,200 corporate treasurer and CFO customers who move money across borders, between subsidiaries, and domestically. McDonald emphasized the importance of utility and daily activity over market capitalization, citing that $RLUSD's daily activity more than tripled since the beginning of the year to around $750 million a day last month.
Ripple is focusing on payments and capital markets as areas of adoption for $RLUSD, with the stablecoin being used as the primary stablecoin in its payments business. The company has also worked with firms like Franklin Templeton and DBS around tokenized money-market funds and lending.
