$1.5 Billion XRP Set for Release Next Week Amid Whales' Accumulation
Ripple is set to release approximately $1.5 billion worth of XRP next week as part of its supply management program. The October 1 release will unlock 1 billion XRP from Ripple's escrow accounts, which were established in 2017 with the locking of 55 billion XRP into a series of on-ledger escrow contracts.
The upcoming release is the result of the company's efforts to make token distributions predictable. According to the $XRP Ledger escrow data, approximately 31.98 billion XRP remains locked, and the next scheduled release will unlock up to 1 billion XRP. Based on XRP's current price, this amounts to roughly $1.54 billion.
Although the monthly release typically attracts attention due to its size, Ripple has historically returned a substantial portion of the unlocked XRP to new escrow contracts. This means that the actual increase in circulating supply is often lower than the headline 1 billion XRP figure.
