$19,000 Lost in Cryptocurrency Scam Phone Call
A Sidney resident lost almost $19,000 to a cryptocurrency scam after receiving a phone call from a man claiming to be an RCMP officer.
The scammer told the victim that his personal information had been leaked and convinced him to provide sensitive information about his cryptocurrency account.
Police have warned that they would never request banking passwords, cryptocurrency account credentials, or other sensitive financial information over the phone.
The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP issued a warning after the resident reported losing close to $19,000 on September 2.
