$1B Weekly Inflows Mark Strongest Spot Bitcoin ETF Performance Since April
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their strongest weekly inflow since April, reaching approximately $1 billion in net inflows last week, according to data from Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.
The inflows were spread across multiple funds, including BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), which both saw positive daily flows. The uptick came shortly after a reported security incident involving a cold-storage wallet provider, raising questions about the safety of direct cryptocurrency custody.
While concerns over self-custody risks may have prompted some investors to seek the regulated, institutional wrapper that ETFs provide, Balchunas acknowledged that the connection is not definitive. He noted the situation as potentially ironic: a hack that exposed vulnerabilities in cold storage could ultimately drive more capital into Bitcoin exposure via traditional financial products.
The data suggests sustained institutional interest in Bitcoin despite market volatility and regulatory uncertainty. However, it also underscores the sensitivity of investor sentiment to security events, with a single incident able to quickly shift capital flows even among products designed to mitigate such risks.
