1inch's Aqua Aims to Unify DeFi's Fragmented Market
DeFi's fragmented market has long been a problem for traders and liquidity providers alike. With multiple chains, each with their own markets and liquidity, it can be difficult to navigate and find the best opportunities.
1inch, a popular decentralized exchange aggregator, is attempting to solve this problem with its new shared-liquidity layer, Aqua. Launched on July 28, 2026, Aqua allows users to maintain one effective balance that can be used across multiple EVM chains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Robinhood Chain, and BNB Chain.
Aqua's core idea is simple: instead of over-funding five chains to chase five opportunities, users can keep a consolidated float and plug it into multiple tactics. This means that traders can provide liquidity to a pool on one chain while also market-making on another, all from the same balance.
The benefits are clear: reduced logistical drag, faster capital rotation, and lower operational costs. According to 1inch, the shared-liquidity layer can help reduce the estimated hundreds of millions of dollars in idle fees that are currently left uncollected across measured venues.
