1inch's Aqua Tackles DeFi Fragmentation with Shared-Liquidity Layer

DeFi traders and liquidity providers often struggle with fragmentation, where multiple chains have slightly different markets for the same pair. This leads to latency, slippage, and idle capital. To address this issue, 1inch has launched Aqua, a self-custodial shared-liquidity layer that allows users to maintain one effective balance across multiple EVM chains.

Aqua's core idea is simple: instead of over-funding five chains to chase five opportunities, you keep a consolidated float and plug it into multiple tactics. This means less time waiting on bridges, fewer half-funded accounts, and reduced logistical drag. Aqua sits across 13 EVM chains at launch, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Robinhood Chain, and BNB Chain.

The Merkl-powered incentive program will direct rewards to addresses that add useful liquidity, rather than pure mercenary TVL. Incentives are not a magic wand, but they can help kick-start books so slippage is tolerable on day one. The problem Aqua targets is underused v3-style liquidity, where only 13.7% of concentrated-liquidity capital was actively used in an average week.

Aqua's design lines up with the diagnosis: making one balance feed multiple strategies and move where flow is can keep more of your stack actually working. With Aqua, users can shift from a passive stance to an active one in minutes without pausing to refill the right chain.
