$2 Trillion Wiped from Crypto Market Amid Thin Stablecoin Liquidity
The crypto market has shed a staggering $2 trillion in value over recent months, leaving its combined valuation near $1.91 trillion. The decline is attributed to investors withdrawing capital from the market, with stablecoin liquidity continuing to thin.
Stablecoins act as a dry powder for the crypto market, and their supply often signals whether capital remains available for a broader market rotation. Over the past three months, stablecoin market capitalization has fallen by roughly $16 billion, standing near $302 billion at press time, close to where it began the year.
This decline suggests investors are keeping less capital ready for risk assets, which may hinder a lasting recovery in the market.
In contrast, derivatives data shows that leverage is gradually returning across the crypto market. Between August 1st and 5th, liquidations totaled roughly $1.046 billion across long and short positions, with short sellers losing $566.39 million during this period.
