$20M XRP Heist: Thieves Strike 6,678 Wallets in Six Attack Waves

Nearly $20 million in XRP was stolen from 6,678 wallets in six attack waves over nearly a week. The thefts occurred between September 15 and 20, with the first wave happening at 3:35 UTC on September 15.

Blockchain analysis firm XRPL.to traced 11.75 million XRP leaving the affected wallets, which is worth around $18.68 million at current prices of about $1.59 per XRP. The tokens were moved through various channels, including THORChain and unionchain.ai.

The investigation found that some users had their accounts deleted without a preceding payment, allowing the thief to extract remaining balances. One such deletion moved 107,507 XRP, worth about $171,000 at current prices.
