A consortium of 21 global financial institutions has announced plans to launch a USD stablecoin in the first half of 2027.

The group, which includes major banks and investment firms from North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions, aims to combine 'bank-grade compliance, strong governance, distribution, and institutional risk management' into its new venture.

The stablecoin will be USD-denominated, with plans to expand into additional G7 currencies, prioritizing a euro offering. The consortium intends to comply with regulatory frameworks such as the GENIUS Act and MiCA, which could support confidence for institutions.
