$24.5B Boost for Privacy Coins in Five Months
The privacy coin sector has seen significant growth over the past five months, with its value increasing by approximately $24.54 billion to reach a total of $36.51 billion as of Thursday.
This surge in value is largely attributed to Zcash ($ZEC) and Monero ($XMR), which have accounted for the majority of the sector's growth, with their market caps swelling by $20.27 billion and $4.33 billion, respectively.
The increased demand for privacy coins can be linked to the growing concern over blockchain surveillance, as governments and companies intensify monitoring due to illicit crypto transfers in 2025.
The design of Zcash and Monero networks makes it difficult to trace transactions, providing investors with added peace of mind. Wall Street and regulators have also played a significant role in $ZEC's gains, with the SEC closing its investigation without recommending enforcement action against the Zcash Foundation.
