$365 Billion Perpetual Contracts on Decentralized Exchanges Feature Stock Perpetuals Dominance
Trading in perpetual contracts referencing real-world assets (RWAs) on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) has seen significant growth, reaching $365 billion in Q3 of 2026. This represents a 32% quarter-over-quarter increase.
The largest category was public equities, generating approximately $175 billion, or nearly half of the total RWA perpetual DEX volume. This growth is attributed to several advantages offered by perpetual contracts, including leverage and short exposure, as well as trading outside conventional market hours.
CryptoRank's figures show that stock perpetuals have become a dominant force in the RWA category, with their share increasing from 36.4% in June to 51.1% in July. While activity cooled in August, cumulative Q3 volume has still surpassed the previous quarter by 32%.
The growth of RWA perpetual contracts is blurring the boundary between crypto exchanges and traditional multi-asset trading platforms. However, this expansion also introduces new complications, such as equity perpetuals depending on reliable external price feeds and differences in trading hours creating risks that do not exist in ordinary crypto perpetual markets.
