$3.8 Million Hack Hits NEAR Intents, Exposing Vulnerability in Cross-Chain Architecture
NEAR Intents, a cross-chain protocol, has confirmed that its infrastructure was hacked on October 1, 2026, resulting in a loss of $3.8 million.
The hack exposed a vulnerability in the interaction between the NEAR Intents smart contract and Omni's custody architecture, allowing attackers to make unauthorized withdrawals from the platform's hot wallet on BNB Chain (BSC).
Despite having successfully blocked $50 million in transactions just two days prior, the external defense proved powerless against this internal integration error.
The NEAR Intents team has since rolled out a crisis plan, patching the vulnerability and freezing bridges to prevent further unauthorized transactions.
The protocol's treasury will fully compensate users for their losses, and law enforcement and blockchain analysts have been brought in to investigate the movement of the stolen Bitcoin.
