$388M Hack Rocks Bitget Exchange, Recovery Prospects Uncertain

Share

Bitget, a derivatives-focused cryptocurrency exchange, has been hit by a massive security breach, resulting in the loss of $387.5 million in various cryptocurrencies.

The hack occurred last week and is one of the most significant exchange breaches of 2026, with attackers making off with funds that Bitget's CEO described as 'not expecting to recover a lot' from.

Despite immediate response efforts, Bitget has only managed to freeze a tiny fraction of the stolen funds, highlighting the challenges exchanges face when dealing with sophisticated attackers who can quickly move assets across multiple blockchains and mixing services.

The incident adds to a troubling pattern of exchange vulnerabilities that have plagued the crypto industry, with several smaller exchanges falling victim to similar attacks earlier this year.
