$3.8M NEAR Intents Hacker Returns Stolen Funds After Public Naming
A $3.8 million exploit of NEAR Intents on October 1 has ended with the thief returning all funds, nearly two days after the platform's General Manager Alex Shevchenko publicly identified and named the alleged hacker.
The issue arose from a bug connecting NEAR Intents' Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure with its smart contract. The vulnerability was isolated to USDT on BSC, according to co-founder Illia Polosukhin, who added that the platform's AI security layer flagged the unusual activity and triggered a pause.
The exploit affected services across 11 networks, including BNB Chain, Polygon, TON, and Avalanche. Despite the quick patching of the contract vulnerability, deposits and withdrawals remained paused for close to 12 more hours while additional fixes were completed.
