$40 Trillion Debt Milestone Sparks Bitcoin Interest
The US government's debt has surpassed $40 trillion for the first time, reaching $40.05 trillion in mid-August.
This milestone is significant because it highlights the country's reliance on borrowing to finance its spending, with interest payments alone accounting for nearly $1.2 trillion annually.
The rise in debt has led some investors to turn to assets that are less likely to be affected by inflation, such as gold and Bitcoin, which have a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins.
According to analysts, rising sovereign debt concerns are driving institutional appetite for Bitcoin, with BlackRock's head of digital assets, Robbie Mitchnick, noting the link between debt milestones and growing interest in Bitcoin.
However, the price of Bitcoin has not directly responded to this milestone, trading in a range between $64,000 and $80,000. The key drivers of its price movement are more granular factors such as interest rate trajectories and Federal Reserve policy.
