Circle's deal to acquire Tazapay for approximately $400 million is a strategic move to connect USDC to local payment channels in emerging markets.

Tazapay, a Singapore-based payment company, has payout channels in more than 100 markets and relationships with banks and fintech firms in Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Circle's head of payments, Irfan Ganchi, noted that building such relationships can take years. The acquisition could provide Circle with ready-made local connections to access local currencies and banking systems.

The goal is to bring USDC together with local currencies and enable broader use of Circle's payment network in emerging countries.
