Trillion-Dollar Valuations Trump Safety Concerns in AI Industry
Solana blockchain co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has sparked controversy in the AI community with his scathing critique of OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI's sudden call for a halt to advanced neural network development.
The trio of industry leaders, including Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Dario Amodei, have cited safety risks as the reason for their proposal. However, Yakovenko sees this move as nothing more than a desperate attempt to lock in their trillion-dollar valuations.
In a tweet, Yakovenko quipped, 'Profitability at $1 trillion mcap,' suggesting that the companies are simply trying to ensure their continued profitability rather than genuinely addressing safety concerns.
Former White House AI and crypto Czar David Sacks has also weighed in on the issue, accusing OpenAI of hypocrisy. He points out that if the company truly believes there is a deadly threat from its new developments, it should simply halt work voluntarily rather than lobbying for industry-wide regulations.
