$440M Memecoin Frenzy Hijacks Robinhood's Blockchain for Speculation
Robinhood Markets Inc.'s blockchain, designed for serious applications like tokenized stocks and real-world assets, has been hijacked by traders using it to fuel a $440 million memecoin frenzy. The unusual pairing of stock tokens with memecoins in liquidity pools on the Robinhood Chain is driving trading volume.
According to a Bloomberg report dated October 2, 2026, the $440 million memecoin trading activity is tied to Robinhood's Stock Tokens. This unexpected usage came from combining those tokens with memecoins in liquidity pools on the new blockchain.
The majority of decentralized exchange volume on the chain in its early days was driven by memecoins, despite the stated purpose of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs). On September 2, 2026, memecoin and stock token pairs generated $217 million in volume, while direct stock token trading reached $127 million.
One notable example is the BONER memecoin, which accumulated roughly 53% of the tokenized HIMS float over a weekend. This effectively controlled the market for that token, causing its price to briefly climb far above the closing price of the underlying stock.
