$50 Million Aave Transaction Ends in Catastrophic Loss for Trader
A high-stakes AAVE token transaction on the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform went spectacularly wrong, resulting in a massive loss for a cryptocurrency trader. The unfortunate investor attempted to purchase AAVE tokens using approximately $50 million in USDT, but due to 'high slippage,' they ended up with only 324 AAVE tokens.
The large transaction triggered warnings on the Aave interface because of its unusually high size, and the user was required to explicitly acknowledge the risk before proceeding. Despite these clear alerts, the trader confirmed the transaction via a mobile device, accepting the potentially disastrous consequences.
Kulechov, founder of Aave, emphasized that the system worked as designed, with the interface displaying warnings about extreme price impact and requiring confirmation from the user before completing the swap. CoW DAO's routing system facilitated the transaction, but both platforms claimed there was no evidence of an exploit or malicious activity.
Aave plans to refund approximately $600,000 in fees generated by the ill-fated trade while attempting to contact the affected user.
