$50M DeFi Trade Turns into Minimal Token Return for Trader

A massive trading error in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space has resulted in a loss of over $49.6 million for an AAVE trader.

The trader attempted to purchase AAVE tokens using approximately $50 million in USDT, but due to high slippage, they only received 324 AAVE tokens.

According to Aave founder Stani Kulechov, the trading interface displayed clear warnings about the extreme price impact and required the user to explicitly acknowledge the risk before proceeding. The trader confirmed the transaction on a mobile device despite these warnings.

Aave has stated that such events can occur in DeFi due to large transactions significantly moving prices, which can result in 'slippage' where the final execution price diverges sharply from the initial quote.
