$550 Million in USDT Frozen Amid Ongoing Sanctions Efforts
Tether, the company behind USDT, has helped freeze around $550 million of the token this year. The figure is a running total for 2026 and not a single freeze on Monday.
The majority of these freezes were linked to Iranian sanctions networks, with Tether's CEO Paolo Ardoino stating that the firm stays in direct contact with US authorities to identify and freeze illicit funds.
In April, Tether helped freeze more than $344 million across two addresses. The US Treasury listed those addresses as linked to the Central Bank of Iran just a day later. In July, the company froze over $130 million across four wallets after the Treasury added four TRON addresses to its designation list.
