$560K Cryptocurrency Seized from Hamas Fundraising Infrastructure
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has made a significant move against Hamas, seizing over $560,000 in cryptocurrency that was allegedly being sent to the terrorist organization.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, this is 'a massive blow' to Hamas, which was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S.
The funds were seized from addresses promoted through an encrypted group chat and a fundraising website, with investigators noting that potential donors were provided with rotating cryptocurrency addresses intended to move money outside the formal financial system.
Pirro stated that the DOJ now has 'the names and identities of thousands of individuals who tried to give money to Hamas' and that this information will be used in future counterterrorism work.
