$6.99B Pentagon Contract: Oracle Wins Big, But Stock Drops Anyway
Oracle has secured a massive contract with the US Department of Defense worth up to $6.99 billion over a decade-long period. The agreement, announced on July 23, covers software licenses and services for the DoD, the US intelligence community, and the Coast Guard.
The base value for the initial five years is $3.31 billion, which will provide significant lifecycle savings of at least $441 million to the government through consolidation of existing licensing agreements.
Despite this major win, Oracle's stock price dropped from its June 2026 highs near $248 to around $115 by July 24 and 25, raising questions about tech sector valuations.
The Pentagon's decision to stick with traditional on-premises database architecture for mission-critical systems suggests a long-term commitment to conventional enterprise software, which may hinder blockchain adoption in government systems.
