$750M Funding Deal for ALT5 Sigma Ties Company to Trump Family Crypto Venture
ALT5 Sigma Corp., a small blockchain and digital payments company, has secured $750 million in funding from investors including Point72 and ExodusPoint to buy tokens issued by World Liberty Financial. This deal marks a significant shift in ALT5's strategy, which had previously been plagued by losses and legal troubles.
The arrangement gives World Liberty Financial an ownership role and board influence at ALT5 Sigma while the company raises funds to purchase its tokens. The Trump family-backed crypto platform, World Liberty, founded by Donald Trump and Steve Witkoff, takes a stake in ALT5 and appoints Zach Witkoff as chairman, effectively altering governance at the company.
This deal highlights the risks associated with token-linked financing structures in the digital-assets sector. Despite prior losses for outside investors, ALT5 has attracted institutional funding through its ties to the Trump family-backed crypto platform, underscoring concerns around politically connected ventures securing fresh backing even as others absorb losses.
