A DeFi governance exploit has left Term Labs reeling after an attacker stole approximately $8.5 million from its vaults.

The breach, which occurred on August 23, 2026, was facilitated by a vulnerability in the protocol's governance code, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield.

The attacker withdrew 2,843 ETH and 1.68 million USDC from the protocol, then swapped the stablecoins into roughly 1.68 million DAI.

Term Labs acknowledged the breach in a post on its official X account, confirming that the governance exploit affected its Term vaults and that the incident was under investigation.
