$8.7M Moonwell Exploit Exposes Risks in DeFi Collateral
Moonwell, a decentralized finance (DeFi) lending and borrowing platform operating on multiple blockchains, has suffered an $8.7 million exploit on the Base network.
The attackers manipulated the price of the illiquid MAMO token used as collateral, inflating its value to borrow real cbBTC from Moonwell's lending market.
The stolen funds were consolidated at an address linked to the attacker, highlighting risks in DeFi protocols relying on illiquid collateral and potentially impacting user trust and token value.
