A Bus Executive's Take on Blockchain: Animoca's Stablecoin Play
Evan Auyang, president of Animoca Brands, has an unconventional background for someone leading one of Hong Kong's top Web 3.0 startups. Before entering crypto, he worked in finance and public transit as a deputy managing director of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company.
Auyang sees parallels between his experience running buses and blockchain technology. He believes that just like buses can efficiently transport people to their destinations, blockchains can provide secure and reliable infrastructure for digital transactions.
Animoca's recent venture into stablecoins is a key example of this thinking. The company has partnered with Standard Chartered and HKT to create Anchorpoint, which will offer a Hong Kong dollar-denominated stablecoin. Auyang emphasized that they're not trying to be the next Tether but rather a regulated rails provider.
Auyang's approach is distinct from that of his co-founder Yat Siu, who has been more vocal about blockchain's revolutionary potential. Auyang takes a more measured view, seeing blockchains as public platforms with a greater obligation to serve the public.
