a16z Crypto Summit Highlights Institutional Adoption and Emerging Markets
Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz's (a16z) crypto investment arm held its first standalone summit in Seoul, highlighting blockchain's shift from a retail transaction tool to core infrastructure for institutional finance.
Guy Wuollet, General Partner at a16z Crypto, said that digital assets are now spreading across the entire financial sector and that the scale of institutional adoption is not receiving enough attention.
a16z has identified three primary investment directions: financial market infrastructure, stablecoin-based digital finance, and new exchanges. Wuollet pointed to questions from limited partners as a symbolic example of expansion into institutional finance, stating that blockchain can now be used as a vehicle for traditional financial activities such as venture capital fund contributions.
The firm also discussed the growing adoption of blockchain in emerging markets, where digital finance companies are using stablecoins to offer dollar savings and fast, low-cost payment services. This trend is expected to lead to lending and new banking services.
