Aave Governance Proposal Brings Institutional Borrowers On Board
A new governance proposal has been introduced for Aave V4, aiming to bring institutional borrowers on board. This would allow regulated institutions to borrow stablecoins against assets held in custody at Anchorage, with collateral state synchronized on-chain via Chainlink.
Anchorage would manage the collateral and execute liquidations as over-the-counter (OTC) sales, rather than automated on-chain sales. This addresses a constraint for regulated institutions that cannot accept public liquidation auctions.
The proposal targets a borrower segment that Aave currently does not reach directly: regulated institutions requiring qualified custody. For AAVE holders, the relevance lies in the lending-revenue thesis, as institutional stablecoin borrowing would add a new source of protocol interest income if the design attracts sustained volume.
