Aave Labs Proposes Cayman Islands Foundation for Brand Oversight
Aave Labs has proposed a Cayman Islands foundation to hold the lending protocol's trademark and related intellectual property under Aave DAO oversight. The proposal, known as 'Aave Foundation, Phase 1', is currently at the Aave Request for Final Comments (ARFC) stage, which would fund the formation and initial independent appointments of the foundation.
The foundation would supply a legal owner able to hold title, sign contracts, and defend the assets. The proposal follows the DAO's April approval of funding and product-revenue commitments under the 'Aave Will Win' framework, which reserved the detailed brand-governance structure for a separate proposal.
The intended holdings of the foundation include the Aave trademark, primary domains, protocol codebase IP, and IP assigned under service-provider agreements. Assignment of new code, tooling, models, and documentation would become a standard condition as provider engagements are renewed or replaced.
