Aave Proposes Cayman Foundation to Secure Protocol IP
Aave, a decentralized lending protocol, has proposed the establishment of the Aave Foundation in the Cayman Islands. This move aims to secure the protocol's intellectual property (IP) for the DAO, in line with the Aave Will Win proposal.
The proposal, titled '[ARFC] The Aave Foundation, Phase 1,' outlines the creation of an ownerless foundation company to address the structural gap in decentralized governance. Aave Labs asserts that this fiduciary model will resolve issues such as registering patents and pursuing commercial infringement litigation, which a decentralized autonomous organization lacks the ability to do.
The proposed entity will function under strict mandates, safeguarding and granting royalty-free licenses for brand assets. The foundation will maintain independent governance, overseen by an external director and an independent supervisor, excluding Aave Labs from holding board seats or direct appointment privileges.
Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave, expressed support for establishing a legal entity in the Cayman Islands to safeguard protocol intellectual property for the DAO.
