Aave Proposes Cayman Islands-Based Foundation for Trademark Oversight
Aave Labs has submitted an ARFC proposal to establish the Aave Foundation in the Cayman Islands. The foundation will oversee the trademark and intellectual property of the lending protocol under the governance of the Aave DAO.
The proposal covers Phase One, including the foundation's registration and appointment of independent directors, overseers, and a secretary. The Aave DAO will cover reasonable costs for registration, legal, and setup expenses, with no ongoing budget allocated to the foundation.
Aave Labs and DAO service providers will not be able to appoint or serve as directors or overseers. Governance powers such as token listing, parameter adjustments, budgeting, and service provider selection remain with the Aave DAO.
Subsequent transfers of trademarks, domain names, and code IP will require separate governance review. The foundation is required to disclose its held assets, operational expenses, and related legal actions on a quarterly basis.
