Aave Seeks to Unify Assets with Proposed Foundation Entity
Aave, a leading decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, has proposed the creation of a legal entity to hold its intellectual property (IP). The proposed entity, called the Aave Foundation, would be a memberless foundation company in the Cayman Islands and would hold legal title to Aave's trademark, domains, and codebase IP.
The proposal, which was backed by Aave founder Stani Kulechov, aims to strengthen Aave by unifying its assets under one entity. Kulechov stated that the structure would benefit token holders by 'removing the duality between token and equity.'
The Aave Foundation would not control protocol decisions, with Aave token holders retaining existing governance powers. The foundation would be managed by an independent director and supervised by an independent supervisor, with initial appointments made by Aave Labs. After the initial appointments, directors would be appointed and removed through Aave Improvement Proposals.
The proposal comes amid Aave's efforts to push for EU regulatory clarity on DeFi. Kulechov has questioned European regulatory positions, arguing that they could make access to open DeFi more restrictive.
