Aave Surges on Macro Squeeze and Real-World Asset Adoption
Aave (AAVE) has surged 15% in value over the past 24-25 hours, largely driven by a broad crypto short squeeze and technical breakout. The move aligns with other major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, which have also seen significant price increases due to macro catalysts.
The US Treasury's decision to double long-duration bond buybacks triggered a violent short squeeze across the market, leading to large liquidations exceeding $1 billion in 24 hours. This environment tends to lift high-beta sectors like DeFi, with Aave being a key beneficiary.
Aave sits at the center of Ethereum-based leverage, with approximately $12.2 billion in total value locked and a concentrated set of highly leveraged ETH staking positions built on liquid staking tokens as collateral. The recent surge in tokenized gold deposits and lending activity has also contributed to Aave's rally.
Additionally, the proposal to add a Neuberger Berman-backed high-yield fund as collateral on Aave Horizon has garnered attention. This move would extend Aave beyond tokenized Treasuries and cash-like products and make it the first sub-investment grade corporate credit collateral on Horizon.
