Aave Surges Past $140 as Gold-Backed Collateral and Institutional Credit Flow In
Aave's price surged 13% past $140 after two significant developments. Firstly, gold-backed collateral is growing on Aave, with tokenized gold deposits increasing by 91.7% to $76.7 million in mid-August. The protocol now holds more than 50% of tokenized gold deposits across DeFi lending protocols.
Secondly, Neuberger Berman's credit machinery is being proposed for Aave Horizon, a development that could bring institutional-grade credit onto the platform. The proposed fund invests in high-yield corporate bonds and other fixed-income assets, which would be used as collateral for borrowing USDC, GHO, and RLUSD.
The influx of gold-backed collateral and the potential introduction of institutional-grade credit have given traders a reason to price Aave differently from the rest of the lending-token pack. However, the risk is obvious, with high-yield bonds and leveraged loans behaving differently than Treasury bills.
