Aave's Stock-Token Loan Market Exposes Lenders to Weekend Price Gap
Aave's stock-token loan market has exposed lenders to a potential weekend price gap since September 25. The stablecoin suppliers who opt-in are affected because Aave Labs' V4 Equities Hub holds Friday's prices until Sunday evening, preventing borrowers from reflecting fresh information during the closure.
The market remains open for deposits, borrowing, and liquidation, but a borrower can still trade tokens during this time. However, if the price-driven decline in a position's health is not visible to the protocol until the feed resumes on Sunday evening, it may become liquidatable only then.
LlamaRisk, which recommended the market's initial parameters, notes that $USDC suppliers opt-in for this equity-backed exposure and do not flow into Aave's other markets. The configured maximum liquidation bonus of 5.5% is intended to pay a liquidator for selling or hedging tokens after repaying $USDC debt.
The exit route determines who absorbs the gap, as redemption is not automatic for whoever receives a seized B20 token. A liquidator can sell on Base, seek an eligible redemption counterparty, or use a hedge while waiting to close exposure.
