Abandoned Governance System Hijacked for $72K in Crypto Heist
A recent security incident has left StrongBlock reeling after an attacker hijacked the company's abandoned governance system, draining approximately $72,000 worth of STRONG and STRNGR tokens.
The attacker exploited a malicious proposal that granted them admin control over the protocol's Governor contract, allowing them to upgrade it and transfer assets from the protocol's pool.
According to Defimon Alerts, the attacker acquired enough voting power in StrongBlock's governance to pass the proposal, which ultimately transferred administrative control of the Governor contract before the funds were removed.
This incident is part of a growing trend of governance attacks on cryptocurrency infrastructure, with recent security breaches targeting governance systems and wallet software rather than relying solely on smart contract vulnerabilities.
