AfD's Crypto-Friendly Platform Gains Momentum in Germany

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has made significant gains in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, winning 43.8% of the vote and reviving questions about their pro-Bitcoin agenda.

The AfD's victory is its strongest regional result to date, but it fell short of an outright majority in the 83-seat parliament, leaving coalition talks unresolved for now.

The party has positioned itself as Germany's most crypto-friendly major party, advocating for 'extensive deregulation' of Bitcoin and calling for regulators to recognize BTC as a potential reserve asset.

AfD lawmakers have also pushed for lighter treatment under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, arguing it was built for centrally issued tokens, not decentralized ones like Bitcoin.
