Affirm's New AI System Boosts Loan Approvals by 5% in First Week
Affirm Holdings' (AFRM) stock price jumped 5.5% in premarket trading on Thursday after the fintech company announced the launch of an advanced transformer-based AI system for instant loan approvals.
The cutting-edge technology, which has been deployed nationwide, utilizes Affirm's proprietary transaction-level credit data collected over the past 14 years and employs machine learning techniques to evaluate the sequence and timing of financial events in a borrower's credit profile.
According to Affirm, the AI platform approved additional qualified customers and generated 3.4% higher transaction completion rates compared to benchmark groups during initial deployment. The system also recognizes patterns within individual credit accounts and across multiple accounts, monitoring how these patterns evolve over time.
Affirm's President, Libor Michalek, explained that the transformer framework enables the organization to derive fresh insights from existing datasets, allowing it to responsibly extend approval to more consumers. However, he emphasized that universal approval is not the objective and providing credit to individuals unable to meet repayment obligations serves no business purpose.
