African Banking Giant Enters Digital Custody Market with Regulatory Approval
Absa Bank has become the first African bank to offer digital asset custody services. The South Africa-based institution received regulatory approval before launching its service for institutional clients.
The initial clients of Absa's custody service include asset managers, non-bank financial institutions, and corporations. Currently, the service supports four digital assets: Bitcoin, XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and USDC.
Absa plans to expand its supported assets as client demand develops and extend the service across other African markets. The bank's entry into the South African custody market estimated at $1.5 billion comes amidst growing institutional digital asset activity in the region.
