Agentic Payments Hit Record High of 8.7 Million Transfers

The number of agentic onchain payments has hit its highest mark in 2026, with over 8.7 million x402 stablecoin transfers recorded last week. According to Token Terminal data, this marks a significant rebound from earlier in the year when weekly counts were near 2 million and bottomed below 1 million in March.

The uptick began in June and has since held steady, but despite recent growth, agentic payments still have a long way to go to reach their all-time high of around 20.1 million transfers set in November last year.

One notable shift is the change in which chains are carrying the traffic. While Circle's USDC remains the dominant stablecoin, its share has decreased significantly since last year when it accounted for over 93% of agentic transfers on Base network.
